2026–27 season

The Rules

Two predictions per game, up to two points per game, and every team sheet competes on its own.

+1Correct resultW, L, or OTL
+1Exact combined goalsboth teams together
2Most pointsfrom one game
  1. Pick a team. Each team’s sheet lists all its games. Fill out as many sheets as you like.
  2. Call each game from that team’s side: W any win, L regulation loss, OTL overtime or shootout loss. Add the combined goals.
  3. Picks lock at puck drop. Change them as often as you like until then.
  4. Every sheet ranks on its own on the leaderboard. Ties share a rank.

The details

Making picks

Choose any NHL team to open its pick sheet, which lists every one of that team’s regular-season games. For each game you can make two predictions, always from that team’s side:

Result
Tap W, L, or OTL. Tap the same button again to clear it.
Combined goals
Set the total number of goals both teams will score, using − and + or by typing a number.

You can make one prediction without the other, and you can change either one as often as you like until the game starts. You can fill out as many team sheets as you want.

Short on time? Upcoming Picks on the home page lists the next few days of games for every sheet you’ve started, and you can pick them right there.

To have your picks count, sign in and choose a username. Picks made while signed out are saved only in that browser, and they’re added to your account the next time you open that sheet while signed in, as long as those games haven’t started.

Scoring and shootouts

Points are awarded once a game is final, usually within about 15–30 minutes of the final horn.

Result: 1 point

Your pick earns a point when it matches how the game ended for the sheet’s team:

PickCorrect when the sheet’s team…
Wwins, whether in regulation, overtime, or a shootout
Lloses in regulation
OTLloses in overtime or a shootout

Combined goals: 1 point

Your number must match the total of both teams’ goals in the official final score exactly. Being off by one earns nothing. Empty-net goals count.

Shootouts: the official final score gives the shootout winner one extra goal, and stickpicks uses that same score. A game tied 2–2 after overtime and won in a shootout goes in the books as 3–2, so the combined goals are 5.

Locking and schedule changes

Both predictions for a game lock at puck drop, the scheduled start time. After that, they can’t be added, changed, or cleared, and the site enforces this, not just the buttons. “Clear all picks” (in a sheet’s More menu) only clears games that haven’t started.

If the NHL moves a game, its picks follow the new start time. A game with no final score never awards points.

Leaderboards and viewing other sheets
  • Every sheet is ranked on its own. Points are never added together across sheets. If you fill out the Kraken and the Maple Leafs, you have two separate entries.
  • Team leaderboards rank everyone’s sheets for one team, head to head.
  • The All-Teams leaderboard ranks every sheet for every team in one list, so the same player can appear more than once, once per team. Use Switch board to move between boards.
  • Season, Month or Week: every board can show the whole season, one month, or one week (Monday to Sunday). Monthly and weekly boards count only games played in that stretch, so everyone starts level each week and month. Use ‹ › to look back at earlier ones.
  • Ties: sheets with the same points share a rank.
  • Viewing other players: on a leaderboard, click a player’s name to open their profile (picture, points, best rank, and sheets; never their email or settings), or click the team to open that player’s pick sheet. Picks are revealed at puck drop, so for games that haven’t started you can only see whether a pick was made, not what it is. From any player’s sheet, Compare side by side lines up your picks against theirs for the same team. Your email address is never shown.

FAQ

Can I predict both teams in the same game?

Yes. If you have sheets for both teams, the game appears on each one, and each sheet scores its own picks separately.

Do I have to make both predictions?

No. Make just the result, just the goals, or both. A blank prediction simply earns no point.

Does a game count if I didn’t pick it?

An unpicked game simply earns 0 points. There’s no penalty beyond the missed chance.

When do points show up?

Scores are checked every 15 minutes, so points usually appear within about half an hour of a game ending. The leaderboard refreshes on its own.

What are the W–L–OTL record and “standings pts” on my sheet?

That’s your predicted season record for the team, using NHL standings points (2 for a win, 1 for an overtime loss). It’s just for fun and doesn’t affect your stickpicks score.

Can other players see my picks?

Yes, once each game starts. Anyone can open your sheet from the leaderboard, but your picks for upcoming games stay hidden until puck drop, so nobody can copy them.

Can I change my username?

Yes, from Settings on your profile (the Me tab, or your name in the top bar). Your points stay with you.

What are badges and streaks?

Your profile shows your Hot streak (results right in a row, across all your sheets) and 49 badges you can earn, like Player of the Week and Player of the Month (#1 on a finished weekly or monthly board), Iron Man (picks 4 weeks in a row), O, Canada (all 7 Canadian teams), Winter Classic and Heritage Classic (a pick on those outdoor games), Recruiter (a friend you invited joins), Breakaway badges for your scores in the Intermission game, Rookie (your first pick), Inaugural Season (for joining, with the year you joined), MVP (#1 on the All-Teams leaderboard when the regular season ends), Hat Trick (a W, an L and an OTL called right on one sheet), the 3rd, 2nd and 1st Star (3, 5 and 10 results right in a row on one sheet), and Captain (#1 on a team leaderboard at any point; it’s yours to keep). Each badge has a progress bar, and the home page shows the ones you’re closest to. They’re just for fun and don’t change your score.

Can I get a reminder before puck drop?

Yes. Turn on Puck-drop reminders in Settings on your profile. About an hour before a game on one of your sheets, if its result or goals aren’t picked yet, you’ll get a notification. Turn it on for each device you use. On iPhone and iPad, add stickpicks to your Home Screen first (Share → Add to Home Screen), then turn it on in the app.

How do I share my results or invite friends?

Look for the Share buttons: Share my results in “Since your last visit” on the home page, Share my spot on the leaderboard, and Share on a new badge or any badge you’ve earned on your profile. Each one makes a stickpicks picture card with a link. Invite friends (on the home page, your profile and the leaderboard) sends a link that tells them you invited them.
